Motion Graphics

Here are examples of my work in Motion Graphics, and how I went about to design them.

Skip the Straw - animated campaign ad

For this project, we were supposed to create an animation based on a print campaign. The animation is 20 seconds maximum and had to use visual elements from the actual design.

*Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com“

For my Advertising, I saw a lot about the environment and wanted to go into that sort of topic. I'm planning on targeting people who regularly use straws and have this calling on either just ditching them or using a more environmentally safe alternative.

Some challenges I had to go through were deciding if I wanted to go strictly with what I storyboarded or what I felt in the moment would be better. One other issue was seeing what audio would work with my graphics. Before I started searching for audio I felt like I wouldn't find the right audio. After looking on zapsplat I found what I was looking for without that much of a hassle. I also had a few minor issues with animating paths and masks, but it was an easy fix after realizing what I did wrong. Using this project as practice for our main project helped me think of how I want to draw in the audience.

Animated Quotes

In this assignment we needed to animate quotes in a way that made them interesting while pulling inspiration from the quote for some of the theme.

Working on this assignment we were asked to animate three quotes. I chose to do one from Robert L. Peters, Steve Jobs, and Thomas H. Peters. The full quotes are:

"Design creates culture. Culture shapes Values. Values determine the future" — Robert L. Peters.

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works” — Steve Jobs

"If at first, you don't succeed, try, try again. Don't give up too easily persistence pays off in the end" — Thomas H. Peters

Storyboarding these quotes was a great exercise on how to storyboard simple concepts so there is room for ideas you want to try. I think some of these difficulties were making your concept flow with the meanings of the actual quote. I overcame this by making it more flexible and varying where I wanted it to be inspired by the words and where I wanted to make it abstract.

Lyrics in Motion

This animation was created to show lyrics in motion and to bring more meaning to the song they are from. The song that was choosen was “dirty Little Animals” by Bones UK

I chose this subject because I wanted to widen my portfolio with something more edgy and energetic. The color concept was inspired by graffiti styles and by this animated series called “Arcane”. I was also motivated by nightlife photography and seeing all the colors you usually don’t see in the day like neon signs and car lights. Coming into this project I had no clue how to make a storyboard that would actually represent my ideas so this project taught me how to do so.

A few challenges I experienced with this project were transitions for the most part and a few technical mistakes. In some scenes was hard to find a way to move into the next without just a straight cut, I solved this with either zoom or using a shape layer that matched this present scene. An example of a technical challenge is the camera tool. I didn’t realize the render time would take longer so I had my computer crash multiple times before I thought to take breaks while it renders. Besides this, it made me more experience using a variety of tools. Creating a retro color scheme and elements made me more detailed orientated.
