Video Editing

The videos displayed have been created by myself and use a mix of self-made assets and outsourced assets.

Creating this Stop motion I went for a retro black and white trailer. The black-and-white treatment makes the video more creepy and mysterious which is the theme of the video. The model kicking the camera makes it look like the shoes are aware and are controlling the figure. The concept isn’t revealed until the end of the video where the title fades to “Night of the Living Shoes”. The tagline “Beware of your Kicks” is a clever play on words due to the kick of the camera and because kicks is another term used for shoes.

A challenge I experienced was finding sound assets that would work with the theme. To solve this I decided to record my own audio to find the right sound design. The creepy echo effects were self-recorded and uses reverb and pitch adjustment to fit the right feel.

Stop Motion

For this project, we were tasked with creating a piece that implemented different methods of stop-motion like the traditional picture-by-picture way, and posterizing footage to give the illusion. I wanted to go for an old thriller sort of feel and came up with the night of the living shoes.

Before collecting assets I was given studio footage of a man setting up a skateboard. The idea was to create something with the footage and create something unique. I thought an ad inspired by the deck being set up would be a good idea due to the multitude of photos and content that are available. I found a font that matched the font of the logo and chose to use the font when displaying text throughout the video. At the end of the video, I chose a comedic ending to give it some humor and interest.

Challenges I have experienced were a way to display text and my skateboard assets while still being able to show the video in the background. To solve this I used a red overlay that is the color of the brand’s logo to keep the brand identity when displaying information. To make the text interesting I made a deck shape to display important or title text.

Mock Ad Promos

Creating these mock ads I wanted to use the brand that was in most of the footage I was given. I made it an overall advertisement that makes the audience interested and discovers a new brand and another one that explores more of the skateboard decks themselves.

Continuing the branding of this company I wanted to go for a more motion graphic approach instead of relying on video footage. This way, the boards, and wheel designs speak for themselves and show what this brand does well which is memorable and unique designs.

Challenges I have experienced were a way to the branding while also being able to display the colorful board designs. Solving this I decided to have a black and white video going for the whole duration of the ad while the rest of the ad was in color. This way made it feel like it keeps the idea of skating while showing the audience the possibility of one of the skateboard decks being displayed as their new board or making them want to get a new one.

I fell in love with creating a whole fictional movie and was instantly inspired by the footage I found on Pexals. I decided to go for a horror/thriller trailer where nature fights back. Two Hikers come across a mysterious valley where one of them goes missing and the final hiker discovers someone has called upon spirits to enact their revenge. The spirit is based on fae/fairies since they are predominantly in forests and are the personification of nature at times.

I struggled on finding sounds that fit my concept. This trailer was inspired by horror and thriller I decided on recording a few effects on my own to ensure I had the best fit for some scenes. Another thing I struggled on was the voice acting. Being a school project there isn’t a budget to get actors so I decided on filming my own and pitching the voices to ensure it was easy to differentiate the different characters.

Movie Trailer

I was tasked to make some type of trailer whether it be for a movie, show, or product. I decided to go for the movie approach to widen my horizons and to explore sound design and the acting aspect.
